The story of this home

From solid 1950s bones to a barely used city base

Early 1950s

Built to outlast

Built by two structural engineers who over-built it on purpose, in the earthquake-aware years of mid-century Beirut. The stairs outside take their name from the old Cinema Vendome that once stood beside them.

1990s

The neighborhood turns

Mar Mikhael grew from a working railway quarter into the cafe and gallery neighborhood it is today, and the painted stairs became one of the city's best-loved landmarks.

2016

The full retrofit

The current owner purchased the apartment and retrofitted it completely: all-new electricity, all-new plumbing, and a re-planned, better-sectioned layout. The kitchen was renovated with premium materials.

2020

Refreshed

New windows and new woodwork were installed throughout, giving the earlier full retrofit a cleaner and more current finish.

Today

Barely lived in

Kept as a lightly used pied-a-terre because the owner was mostly abroad, so the renovation has hardly been worn.

The ownership and renovation history above is based on seller-provided documentation and should be confirmed during legal review.

The neighborhood

At the stairs between Mar Mikhael, Geitawi, and Achrafieh

The building sits by the Vendome Stairs, a pedestrian link between the quieter upper streets and Armenia Street's restaurants, galleries, coffee, bars, and small shops. It is a place for buyers who want Beirut on foot, not just by car.
